"One thing about this class is that you don't just submit a paper to be graded, you submit some type of media or something very creative. I've had to think outside of the box in order to get my assignments done because of this." ~Wyatt

7-19 (70pts) Movie Night
Get the popcorn ready . . . it's time for a World Movie Night!
Watch one of these films, either renting from the library or on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon if you subscribe to those services. They're not organized in any particular order. If you've seen any of these before, watch a new one for this project.
As you watch, prepare a response to the movie. You can have your choice of tool--I'll list several options below--but you're going to be responding to the movie rather than summarizing it. How did you feel, watching a film (most of them) that wasn't made in Hollywood? Can you notice how your own reaction to the movie is different from when you watch a "normal" comedy or action flick? What makes these movies not fall into the category of "flick," anyhow?
Your reaction could be in the form of a poem or a composition written on your Portfolio page. You might create a cartoon dialogue (using http://www.pixton.com/ or http://goanimate.com/) in which two characters discuss their reactions to the film. You might find a still image from the movie and use http://www.thinglink.com/ to create hotspots that articulate your response/reaction. If you choose to write a poem or composition but want to try a new medium for expression, try writing it out and going 3-D with http://prezi.com/.
Spend two hours with the movie, then another full two hours with your response to it. Analyze the characters, analyze your own reactions to the characters. Think about the setting, the camera-work, the music (or lack thereof), the choice of casting. Don't summarize the plot: "This movie is about..." Don't review the movie as if you're a critic: "This film gets 6 out of 10 stars ..."
Instead, ask yourself "Did I respond to the principal characters the way the director hoped I would?" "Did I find myself uncomfortable? Why?" "Has my own thinking about these people shifted, as a result of having seen the film?"
PROJECT CHECKLIST
____ Watch one of the movies. It doesn't have to be at night, and popcorn, though recommended, is not strictly required.
____ React to it as you watch, and let part of yourself observe your own reactions.
____ Create a response. It should be evident from your response that you have spent 2 hours creating/thinking. This response is not a plot summary, nor is it a review. If your response is too limited to represent 2 hours of writing, you'll get to redo or add-to.
____ Make sure that your response includes enough information that a reader could find the movie you watched, along with other responses/reviews, in just a couple of clicks.
____ Provide the URL for this project and this Project Checklist (copy and paste and mark with __x__) in your Turn In area.
